 NARSINH JAYANTI

Vaishakh Sud 14 is celebrated as Narsinh Jayanti or Narsinh Chaudas in Pushti Marg. Narsinh Chaudas is one of the four Jayanti vrats included by Shri Mahaprabhuji in the Seva Pranalika of Pushtimarg. Because in all these four Jayanti, Thakorji has performed HIS Pushti Leela. In addition to Ekadashi – Agyaras; fasting (upvas) on these four Jayantis (Janmashtami, Ram Navmi, Vaman Dwadashi i.e. Vaman Jayanti and, Narsinh Chaturdashi i.e. Narsinh Jayanti) is observed by all Pushti Vaishnav. Thakorji’s these four Avatar manifested to fulfill individual Manorath of the respective HIS Nij Bhakt and in the process, protect HIS Nij Bhakt on their ANUGRAH. This is the reason why our Pushti Marg is also called as ANUGRAH MARG In Pushti significance of Narsinh Avatar, Thakorji’s this Avatar has occurred to shower HIS Grace according to the principles of Pushti (Kripa) on HIS Nij Bhakt – Prahladji. The Prasang as narrated in Shrimad Bhagwatji (Adhyay 7), through severe “Tap / Austerities”, Hiranyakashyapu had acquired boons from Brahmaji which made him almost immortal and made him cruel, super egoistic and started believing himself as a GOD. His son, Bhakt Prahaldji however was a firm believer of GOD’s existence in everything and presence everywhere. In order to strengthen Bhakti Bhav of Bhakt Prahladji and also to protect blessings of Brahmaji, Narsinh avatar was manifested who, killed Hiranya-kashyapu having lower half human body and upper half lion body (Brahmaji’s boon # 1 = Not be killed by Human or animal), during Sandhya time (Brahmaji’s Boon # 2 = Not be killed during day time or night time), at the middle of the entrance of the room (Brahmaji’s boon # 3 = Not be killed inside or outside the house), in the lap of Narsinh Prabhu.

(Brahmaji’s boon # 4 = Not be killed on ground or in the sky) and, by tearing open hi stomach using Narsinh Prabhu’s Lion nails (Brahmaji’s boon # 5 = Not be killed by Astra or Shastra or any weapon made of any material of Bhulok or other lok).

On a face value, it shows a triumph of Daivi Srushti over Asuri Srushti. The true Pushti Tatva of this Avatar Leela is a Praman of Brahm’s Raman Leela as Purn Purushottam. Narsinh Avatra first gave Praman that Prabhu is “Akshar-Brahmatmak” and Omni-present including in Jad – Chetan srushti. Thus, the basic principla of Brahm-vaad is confirmed that Prabhu excists everywhere including but not limited to; stone, metal, picture, shringar, etc. Thus omni-present Prabhu is in the form of “Akshar-Brahm”. Vallabh hence preaches that if we have the same Nirgun and Nishkaam Prem like Prahladji for our Thakorji the Thakorji always fulfills HIS bhakt’s manorath and as a Fal of Jeev’s Nirgun and Nih-sadhan Bhakti, HIS Aavirbhav in Bhakt’s Antah-karan certainly occurs. Thus, Gudharth swaroop of this Utsav is acquiring Mahatmay Gyan of Akshar Brahm to Purn Purushottam Thakorji. This is the true Gudharth of our “Pusht Sevya” in our Gruh Seva. Pushti Marg has another Adbhut Bhav of this Utsav. Shriji resided at Satghara in Mathura from Maha Vad 7 up to Vaishakh Sud 14. On Vaishakh Sud 14, Shriji returned to Girirajji. Shriji presided in Mathura at Satghara for 2 months and 21 days. During this time including Hori Khel, Shri Giridharji pampered Shriji by various manoraths. When the news of Gusaiji reaching Jatipura came in then at that time, Shrinathji ordered Giridharji to take him back to Jatipura (Shri Girirajji) and make him preside in HIS temple at Girirajji. Hence as per Shrinathi’s order and wish, HE presided at this temple on this day (Vaishakh Sud 14) in the afternoon and then Rajbhog to Shriji was offered. At this time Gusaiji came to the temple. It was almost the time of Sandhya Aarti, Gusaiji was surprised as to why Rajbhog was offered at this time (in the evening)? Giridharji explained that Shriji wanted to give Darshan to Gusaiji at Jatipura and hence HE undertook the travelling from Mathura to Jatipura on this very day itself. Hearing this, Gusaiji felt very much blessed and was very happy that Shrinathji loves him very much. This day (Vaishakh Sud 14) happened to be the Utsav of Narsinh Jayanti. Therefore, Gusaiji offered Rajbhog Samagri once again along with Shayan Bhog. From that day onwards it has become a ritual in Nathdwara that every year on Narsinh Jayanti, a second Rajbhog Samagri is offered along with the Shayan Bhog. When Shriji was presiding at Mathura, during that time Chaturbhujdasji could not have darshan of Shriji at Girirajji and he had so much intense virah Taap / bhav that he went on repeating “Govardhan vaasi Saanvare Laal, Tum Bin Rahyo Na Jaay”. His Virah taap was so intense that Shriji had to come back to Girirajji. In Shrinathji’s Seva, this day Shriji’s main ornament is “Vyaghra Nakh” and “Vyaghra-mukhi Kada”. Today’s saaj is completely white and vastra is kesari Malmal with silver (rooperi) border Pichhoda and on Shri mastak, is Kulhe Jod of 3 Chandrika and all the ornaments of pearls are offered. Sathua (Sathva) and Dahi bhaat are the main samagri of the day. During Rajbhog, a plate full of water is kept in front of the Shriji in which, toys made of silver or sandalwood are put in, even flowers are put in the water. The plate of water is kept in front of Shrinathji from this day till a day before Rath-Yatra besides in Rajbhog, all these days “Dahi – Bhat” must be offered. In Haveli, today Panch-amrut snan to Shligramji is done while from this day till a day before Rath-Yatra, every fourth day Shriji is given an Abhyang snan. During these days, Thada Vastra is removed. Such is the Pushti Mahatmay and Pushti Bhav of Narsinh Jayanti in Pushtimarg.
